How It Happened
• The Spartans wasted little time in getting on the board as York drew a penalty corner 2:52 into the game. The Spartans got a shot from
Libby Wild that was blocked but sophomore
Kelsey Welch collected the long rebound and drove home a shot from the left wing to put the Spartans up 1-0. The Lions got a flurry at the end of the quarter as they got two corners and two shots that were saved by
Belle Fields and a defensive save from
Riley Buschert.
• The second quarter was all Spartans as they notched three goals in the period. Sophomore
Hannah Downs opened the quarter scoring as she received a pass from
Tori Heiserman and poked home the pass for the goal a mere 40 seconds into the quarter. The Green and White made it 3-0 just over six minutes later Welsh collected a rebound off a
Kate Egan shot and slipped a pass to
Haley Boyarski who finished off the opportunity for the goal. Downs teamed up with Heiserman for a second goal with 3:10 left in the half as the York lead grew to 4-0.
• York out shot the Lions 7-0 including 6-0 in shots on goal. The Spartans also had a 3-0 bulge in penalty corners for the quarter.
• The Spartans got their final goal of the game 4:57 into the third quarter as Buschert intercepted an Albright pass and slipped a perfect pass to
Kelbie Linebaugh right down the middle of the circle. Linebaugh finished off the chance for the fifth goal of the day.
• The Spartans finished the third quarter out shooting the Lions 8-1 for the period.
• York continued to play well in the fourth quarter but were unable to find the back of the cage. The Green and White finished the game with a 29-4 margin in total shots including a 15-3 bulge in shots on goal. The Spartans also held an 11-5 advantage in penalty corners.
