HAVRE DE GRACE, MD – The York College golf squad finished eighth of 11 teams at the Alvernia Fall Invitational held at Bulle Rock Golf Club in Havre de Grace, Maryland on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The Spartans shot a two-day total of 655. They posted a 337 in Monday's first round and bounced back to shoot 318 during day two of the tournament. Their second round performance was the fourth best round in the field.
Christopher Newport won the team title with a team score of 603. Albright finished distant second with a score of 622 followed by Roanoke (638), Alvernia (644) and Elizabethtown (645) to round out the top five team finishes.
Senior
Gavin Ganter led the way for York with a tournament score of 159. Ganter shot an 83 in Monday's opening round. Ganter roared back with a four-over-par 76 on Tuesday to finish the tournament tied for 15
th. Fellow senior
Jason Velez was the next Spartan finisher as he tied for 19
th with a score of 160. Velez shot 79 on Monday followed by an 81 on Tuesday.
Sophomore
Thomas O'Connell concluded his tournament with a score of 169 as he tied for 36
th place. O'Connell shot an 88 for Tuesday's opening round and made a seven-shot improvement on Wednesday with an 81.
Nate Myers was York's final two-day scorer as he shot 178 for the tournament. Myers shot 87 on Tuesday followed by a 91 on Wednesday. Freshman
Adam Gorman played both days but was DQ'd on Tuesday. However, he bounced back to play well on Wednesday with an 80 for the Green and White.
The Spartans are now off until the start of the spring campaign. The spring schedule will be released later in the fall semester.
