ST. DAVID'S, PA – The York College men's soccer team extended their win streak to six as they slipped past Eastern University, 1-0, on Saturday afternoon in St. David's, PA.
The Spartans got a
Brayden Safley goal in the 68
th minute and held on from there for their second MAC Commonwealth win.
York improves to 10-0-4 overall and are now 2-0 in MAC Commonwealth action. Eastern falls to 3-6-3 overall and 0-2 in the league.
How It Happened
• The Spartans had the momentum early as they fired off the first four shots in the game. After a pair of Eastern shots midway through the first half, York fired off three more attempts with two of those chances coming on goal. York was called for a questionable off sides in the final minute of the half as the Green and White was on the cusp of breaking through for a goal.
• The Spartans held a 7-3 margin in first half shots while York had a 3-0 advantage in shots on goal and a 2-1 edge in corner kicks.
• The early second half play was contested in the middle of the field before freshman
Aiden Hall made a play. Hall got a pass from
Luke Nall. He drove into the box and unleashed a shot that was artfully turned away by Eastern goalie Ty Bleiler. Hall tracked down the rebound outside the right-hand side of the box. He settled the ball against the unsettled Eastern defense and flicked a great pass to
Colin Findlay who was racing into the top of the box. Findlay got the ball and fired a shot towards the left side the box where
Brayden Safley redirected the shot into the back of the net for the game's lone goal.
• The Eagles forced Spartan goalie
Jake Bono to make a pair of saves over the final 20 minutes of the game but the York defense was solid in keeping the Eastern opportunities to a minimum.
• York finished the game with a 14-9 advantage in total shots, a 7-2 edge in shots on goal and a 4-2 margin in corner kicks.
