GETTYSBURG, PA – The York College women's soccer squad went on the road Wednesday and picked up their first win of the year, downing Gettysburg 2-1 in a non-conference contest. How It Happened
• The opening 15 minutes of the game were back and forth with neither team being able to find any appreciable momentum. The Spartans broke through in the 19
th minute as sophomore defender
Sara Frensley carried the ball down the sideline before lofting a ball into the middle of the box. Freshman
Meg Kalthof collected the pass and ripped it into a wide-open net for the 1-0 Spartan lead. It was York's first lead of the 2023 campaign.
• The remainder of the first half was void of other offensive chances as the Bullets out shot York 5-3 with both teams putting two shots on frame.
• York added to the lead in the 53
rd minute as senior
Ashlynn Weger got a break away. She fired a shot from the top of the box that got slowed down by Bullet goalie Sammy Grayson but the momentum of the shot carried the ball over the line for the 2-0 lead.
• The Bullets spoiled the shutout in the 85
th minute as Jane Daiutolo had a great individual effort in the box to score her first goal of the year. The Bullets had three shots in the final three plus minutes of regulation but
Teresa Gonzalez made two saves to preserve the Spartans' first win of the campaign.
