Men's Soccer Fights Back to Earn Draw with WAC

YORK, Pa. - The York men's soccer team came from behind to earn a 1-1 draw with Washington (Md.) for the second-straight season as the two teams met Wednesday night at Graham Field.

Team Records
Washington 0-0-3
York 1-1-1

How It Happened
  • The Shoremen did not take long to get on the board as they jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the sixth minute of play. Harrison Malone pressed up the middle and drew defenders before dumping a pass off to a hustling Katim Njie who came up the right side and booted a strike to the upper left corner for his first tally of the season.
  • The Spartans surrendered four shots in the first 14 minutes, but went on to allow just two more before halftime as they challenged each threat the Shoremen posed the rest of the half. Washington's back line stifled York's attack and limited the Spartans to just two first-half shots with very little quality chances inside the 18-yard line.
  • York remained persistent and found paydirt in the 56th minute with the equalizer. Following a save by Washington keeper Anthony Pinto, the Spartans regained possession and kept on the offensive. Luke Nall served a cross in front of the goal mouth from the right corner and Brayden Safley managed to step in front of his defender to knock in Nall's pass for the game-tying tally.
  • The Spartans held strong down the stretch to preserve the draw as they were pressured by the WAC offense who owned a 4-0 shot margin and a 3-0 advantage in corner kicks in the final 16 minutes.

Up Next
The Spartans hit the road Saturday for a MAC crossover tilt at Misericordia. Kick off from Dallas, Pa. is set for 6 p.m.
