Volleyball Caps Off Undefeated Week with Saturday Sweep

YORK, Pa. - The York volleyball squad posted a pair of 3-0 victories against Misericordia and Mount Aloysius in a home tri-match on Saturday to cap off an undefeated week. The Spartans also improved their unblemished home record to 6-0.

How It Happened
  • The Spartans trailed early before pulling away to a 25-21 victory in the first set. York turned the tide with a 6-0 run which took the Green and White from trailing by two to leading by three (11-8). The Cougars battled back to tie the score late, 20-20, but finished the set on a 5-1 run fueled by a trio of kills from Gianna Krinock who led the team with five in the opening frame.
  • York ultimately prevailed, 25-22, in the second set following 13 ties and four lead changes. The Spartans came from behind to tie the score, 21-21, on a Jasmine Doguin service ace before a crucial Jennifer Taylor kill put the Spartans ahead, 23-22. The Cougars posted back-to-back hitting errors which sealed the win for York. 
  • The Spartans nearly held the Cougars to single digits as they rolled to a 25-11 triumph in the third set. York hit an impressive .450 as a unit, while the Cougars struggled to gain traction on a -.040 average.

How It Happened
  • York twice erased five-point deficits to edge out a 25-23 victory in set number one following six ties and four lead changes. Tied 22-22, a bad set by the Mounties combined with a Lily Morton service ace set the Spartans up for set point, which was secured on a Morgan Nolte kill.
  • The Spartans rolled to a 25-13 victory in the second set as they hit a collective .419 and held the Mounties to -.038. York used a late 5-0 run on a pair of Doguin service aces to seal the win as they extended an eight-point lead into a 13-point advantage.
  • York ripped off five unanswered to begin the third set as the Green and White cruised to a 25-11 victory on a staggering .438 attack percentage. The Spartans reached 22 points before the Mounties finally hit double-digits and compiled three total blocks to limit Mount Aloysius to a .053 attack percentage.
