Volleyball Splits a Pair in Lancaster

Spartans sweep Saint Elizabeth to earn split at Lancaster Bible

LANCASTER, Pa. - The Spartans went 1-1 with a 3-0 loss to Lancaster Bible and a 3-0 victory over Saint Elizabeth on Saturday in a tri-match at LBC.

How It Happened
  • The Chargers came back from a 9-4 deficit to take set one, 25-20. LBC hit .265 in the opening set while holding York to just .075.
  • The two teams went back-and-forth in the second set until a 5-0 run by LBC broke open an 8-8 tie and gave the Chargers the lead for good on their way to a 25-19 victory. The Chargers defended the net well in the second with four blocks and the Spartans struggled with the serve as they posted six service errors with no aces.
  • The third set unfolded with 13 ties and five lead changes before a Chloe King kill gave LBC a 16-15 edge and sparked a 3-0 which put the Chargers in the lead on their way to a 25-21 match-clinching victory.

How It Happened
  • The Spartans dominated the first set as they turned a 4-0 opening run into a 25-7 win. York hit a blistering .478 in the opening set with 13 kills and just two errors, led by Morgan Nolte who racked up five kills on a .714 attack percentage.
  • York fell into a 2-1 hole to start the second set before running off 12-straight points en route to a 25-8 victory. Saint Elizabeth did not help their cause with a -.292 attack percentage in and just one kill in the second set and the Spartans took full advantage as they hit .423 with 13 kills on just two errors.
  • The third set began with four ties before the Spartans busted out of a 5-5 tie with an 8-1 run to take the lead for good in a 25-13 win. Saint Elizabeth handed the Spartans 13 free points on seven service errors and six attack errors as York needed just five kills to pull off the win in the final frame.

Up Next
The Spartans remain on the road and open conference play with a trip to two-time defending MAC Commonwealth champion Eastern.

Morgan Nolte led the Spartans with 16 kills on the day on a .237 attack percentage and compiled a team-best six total blocks … Gianna Krinock notched 14 kills and racked up a team-high 27 digs on the day … Lily Morton led the squad with six service aces on the day, while Jasmine Doguin compiled five.
