GRANTHAM, PA – The York College women's tennis squad picked up an important 6-3 MAC Commonwealth road victory at Messiah University on a warm and beautiful Wednesday afternoon in Grantham.
The Spartans have won three of their last four as they improve to 7-4 overall and 2-0 in the league. The Falcons fall to 4-6 overall and 1-1 in the Commonwealth.
The Spartans earned two of the three doubles points to get off to a 2-1 lead.
Elsa Oestermarker and
Brianna Rohrer earned an 8-4 first doubles win for the Green and White.
Bri Serruto and
Hannah Sult battled Rebekah Sheaffer and Kylie Walker in the second doubles match and came up just short as the Falcon duo earned an 8-6 win.
Morrissey Walsh and
Eleanor Beck earned an 8-5 third doubles victory for the Spartans.
Oestermarker got the Spartans started off with a 6-2, 5-7, 6-0 first singles win. The Falcons earned wins at second and third singles but the Spartans earned wins in the remaining matches to earn the team victory.
Rohrer outlasted Sheaffer 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 in the fourth singles match. Walsh earned a 7-5, 7-6 (7-0) fifth singles win while Beck posted a 6-3, 6-3 sixth singles victory.
The Spartans return to action on Saturday with a huge MAC Commonwealth match against Lebanon Valley at the Myers Tennis Complex in York. The highly anticipated match is set for a 1:00 pm start in York. The two teams have split the last two MAC Commonwealth championships with York winning in 2021 and the Dutchmen earning the crown in 2022.
