Women's Tennis Falls to LVC in Commonwealth Title Tilt

LVC earned a 5-2 win over the Spartans in the championship match

ANNVILLE, PA – The York College Spartan women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to Lebanon Valley College in the championship match of the 2023 MAC Commonwealth tournament. It is the third straight season the teams have battled for a championship. The Spartans took home the crown in 2021 but the Dutchmen have won the last two championships.

The Spartans finish the year with a record of 12-6. The Dutchmen improve to 16-3 as they earned the Commonwealth's automatic bid to the 2023 NCAA Division III Tournament.

The three doubles matches were all close as the two squads battled for the early advantage. Elsa Oestermarker and Brianna Rohrer dropped an 8-5 decision to the Dutchmen tandem of Nicole Honrade and Sarah Kramer. The second doubles match was closer as Meredith Haas and Livia Jackson edged Bri Serruto and Hannah Sult 8-6 in their hotly contested match.

The Dutchmen completed the doubles sweep as Eleanor Beck and Morrissey Walsh fell to Madison Poladian and Eliana Shenk 8-7 (7-1) in the third doubles contest.

York got on the board in the second singles match as Sult won via retirement to cut the LVC lead to 3-1. Beck concluded her outstanding season with a 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 sixth singles win to draw the Spartans to within a point. Haas earned LVC's fourth point with a 6-4, 7-6 (7-1) fourth singles win over Rohrer in the fourth singles contest.

The Dutchmen closed out the championship with a Honrade win over Oestermarker in the battle of two of the top singles players in the Commonwealth. Honrade outlasted Oestermarker 6-7 (7-3), 6-3, 6-0.

Oestermarker and Walsh concluded their seasons with 15 singles wins each. Oestermarker went 15-6 playing out of the number one position for York. Walsh finished 15-2 as she was 5-0 in fourth singles and 9-1 in fifth singles in addition being 1-1 in the MAC Preseason Tournament. Beck was the third Spartan with double figures in wins as she concluded her year with a mark of 11-3. Beck was 5-1 in fifth singles and 6-1 in sixth singles for York.

Oestermarker and Rohrer led the squad in doubles win as they went 13-6 for the year. Oestermarker won 15 doubles matches with two different partners while Rohrer had 13. Serruto and Sult each won ten doubles matches including nine as partners.

Walsh concludes her Spartan career with 37 career singles wins as she is second on the all-time wins list, four behind career leader Katie Wagner. Oestermarker will enter her senior year with a career mark of 34-13 while Rohrer finishes her career with a record of 30-15.

The Spartans will say goodbye to seniors Emily Louie, Rohrer, Michaela Sentz and Walsh as York will need to replace two starters.
