#9 Spartans Clinch Regular Season Title with Blanchard’s Record-Setting Performance

Kiersten Blanchard collects a program-record 16 draw controls

YORK, Pa. - The No. 9 York women's lacrosse team locked up the MAC Commonwealth regular season title Wednesday evening with a 17-5 triumph over Stevenson at weather-laden Kinsley Field.

The Spartans and Mustangs battled through a trio of weather delays which stretched the game past the four-hour mark. The weather did hamper the Spartans who owned a 10-goal lead midway through the second quarter. It also did not slow down senior Kiersten Blanchard who set a new single-game program record with 16 draw controls to go along with four goals.

Team Records
Stevenson 6-10 (4-3 MACC)
#9 York 13-3 (7-0 MACC)

How It Happened
The Spartans rolled out to a 7-2 first-quarter lead with Giana Huet and Zoe Klugel each netting a pair. Kiersten Blanchard fueled the hot start as she won the first nine-straight draw controls to start the quarter.

York scored six-straight to begin the second quarter and extend an 8-0 run before the game went into a one-hour weather delay. The game resumed for 54 seconds before heading into a second weather delay that lasted approximately 30 minutes. Three seconds out of the resumption of play, Teresa Matthias netted a free-position goal to put the Spartans up 14-2. The two teams played out the rest of the second quarter and moments after the horn sounded the game went into a third weather delay which turned into an extended halftime break

The game would resume just before 7:30 p.m. and remained in the clear through the duration of the second half. Blanchard collected her record-setting draw control on the opening draw of the third quarter and added a free-position goal on the same possession for her third tally of the day. She would go on to bookend the third-quarter scoring with another free-position tally with seven seconds left in the third as the Spartans went up 16-4.

Juliana Silvernale added the lone Spartan goal in the fourth quarter. The Spartans held the Mustangs to just two shots in the final quarter on five total possessions.
