Women's Tennis Caps Regular Season with a 9-0 Win at Eastern

The Spartans have won four straight heading into the Commonwealth tournament

ST. DAVID'S, PA – The York College women's tennis team wrapped up their 2023 regular season with a 9-0 MAC Commonwealth win at Eastern University on Saturday in St. David's, PA.

The Spartans have won four straight with three of those victories coming in shutout 9-0 fashion.

The Spartans finish the regular season with a mark of 11-5 overall and 6-1 in the league. The Eagles conclude their campaign with a mark of 2-8 and 0-7 in the conference.

York opened the match with a trio of 8-1 doubles wins to jump out to an early lead. Elsa Oestermarker and Morrissey Walsh teamed up to win the first doubles point. It's the second time they have been placed together and they are now 2-0. Hannah Sult and Bri Serruto downed Sarah Mower and Rhyan Metzger in the second doubles match.  Sult and Serruto are now 8-5 in doubles play for the year. Emily Louie and Caraline Junkin earned the third doubles win to put York up 3-0.

Oestermarker earned a 6-0, 6-0 first singles win over GraceHope Stevens as she improves to 15-4 in singles play this year. Sult notched a 6-3, 6-4 win over Trinity Gruber in the second singles match for her eighth win of the year.

Serruto posted a 6-2, 6-2 win over Sarah Mower in the third singles contest. Serruto's win is her ninth of the season. Walsh blanked Metzger 8-0 in a pro set to record her 14th singles win of the year. Louie earned an 8-1 fifth singles win while Junkin posted an 8-4 win in the the sixth singles match. Louie improves to 6-2 in singles play for the year while the singles win for Junkin was her first career victory as a Spartan.

The Spartans begin their post season on Wednesday afternoon as they host Alvernia in the MAC Commonwealth semifinals at the Myers Tennis Complex. The match is set for a 3:30 pm start in York.
