Mott Establishes New Discus Record as Full Squad Opens Outdoor Season at Widener

CHESTER, Pa. - The Spartan men's track and field squad compiled 15 individual top-10 performances with several personal records and saw one school record fall as the full team opened the outdoor season at the Danny Curran Invitational hosted by Widener on Friday and Saturday.

Andrew Mott highlighted the weekend as he reestablished the program's discus record with a throw of 49.08m (161.0') to place first. His throw surpassed his own previous record of 47.00m which he set last week at Goucher. His throw on Friday ranks him fifth in the nation this season and first in the Middle Atlantic Conference. Mott also captured a fifth-place finish in the shot put on Friday. 

Harrison Sharp established a pair of personal records with a throw of 45.38m to place fourth in the discus and a toss of 14.48m to capture 6th in the shot put.

John Kettula and Josh Smoot both set PRs in the 800. Kettula posted a time of 1:56.41 to place 6th and Smoot ran a pace of 1:58.73 to take 10th.

Jack Mahoney had a strong showing in the triple jump as he led York with a fifth-place finish with a new PR distance of 13.66m.

Tyler Hunt posted a new personal record in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 10:29.05 to take 6th.
