HERSHEY, PA – The York College men's golf squad put together their best performance of the year on Sunday in the opening round of the prestigious Hershey Cup at Hershey Country Club East.
The Spartans sit second in the 15-team tournament with a score of 308. The Spartans are one stroke back of team leader RPI. The Spartans are up one stroke on eighth ranked Wittenberg and Rochester. Kenyon and Franklin & Marshall are tied for fifth at 313.
Senior
Riley Rohlfs led the way for the Green and White as he fired a three-over-par 74 as he is tied for third overall. Rohlfs was on fire on the back nine as he recorded a one-under 34 with two birdies and a bogey. He is three strokes back of tournament leader Jacob Lindsay from RPI.
Sophomore
Gavin Ganter also played well on Sunday as he shot a five-over-par 76. Ganter was five over on the front but was even on the back as he is tied for eighth heading into Monday's final round.
Matthew Salter was the third Spartan to shoot in the 70's on Sunday as he carded a 78. Salter was four-over on the front and three-over on the back as he is tied for 18
th.
Matthew Ruzomberka was the fourth Spartan scorer on Sunday as he shot a nine-over 80. Ruzomberka was three-over on the front and then was six-over on his inward nine. He is tied for 29
th in the tournament. Senior
Nick Fioravante was York's fifth tournament participant and he finished one stroke back of Ruzomberka with a ten-over 81. Fioravante was seven-over on the front but battled back and shot a three-over 38 on the back nine. He heads into Monday tied for 40
th.
The tournament resumes on Monday as the Spartans start their rounds at 10:00 with Fioravante as the first one off for York. Rohlfs will be the fifth and final Spartan to tee off at 10:36. York is paired with RPI and Franklin & Marshall for Monday's final round.
