WASHIGTON, N.J. – The York College men's golf squad finished fourth of nine teams at the Garden State Collegiate Classic on Sunday afternoon at Hawk Pointe Golf Club in Washington, New Jersey.
The tournament was originally scheduled for a two-day tournament but Saturday's opening round was rained out midway through the round on Saturday, shortening the tournament to a one day affair.
The Spartans shot 293 as a team as they were eight back of team champion Drew. The Ranger finished with a three-under-par 285 followed by Arcadia at 289. Stevens was one stroke in front of York as they shot 292. Farmingdale State was two back of York to round out of the top five teams in the tournament.
Jason Velez was York's top finisher as he shot a two-under 70 to finish tied for third. The 70 tied his career low which he recorded in the opening round of the Savannah Invitational on March 7, 2022. The top five finish was the fourth in his York career.
Matthew Ruzomberka was York's second finisher as he shot an even-par 72 to finish tied for eighth. The top ten finish was Ruzomberka's third in his Spartan career.
Bennett Elgin recorded a three-over-par 75 as York's third finisher. The 75 was Elgin's career-low round for the Green and White.
Ian Arnold and
Jacob Fripp both shot a four-over-par 76 for the Spartans' final scorer. They tied for 33
rd in the 59-player field.
Freshman
Nate Myers played the tournament as an individual for the Green and White. Myers shot a seven-over-par 79.
The Spartans return to action on Saturday, April 22 when they start play in the two-day 2023 MAC Commonwealth Championship tournament at the Club at PB Dye in Ijamsville, Maryland. The tournament is slated for a 12:00 pm start on Saturday.
