FREDERICK, MD – The York College baseball squad split a MAC Commonwealth doubleheader at Hood College on Sunday afternoon in Frederick, Maryland. The Blazers won game one 3-1 before earning a 2-1 win in the nightcap.
The Spartans have moved into a second-place tie in the MAC Commonwealth with Alvernia as both teams are 12-6 with six league game remaining. Both teams are two games back of first place Lebanon Valley.

How It Happened
• The Blazers got all the offense they would need in the second inning. Christian Reyna walked to lead off the inning. Stephen Sommer doubled to right center to put Blazers at second and third. Matthew Stout lifted a sacrifice fly to right to score Reyna with the game's first run. Sommer scored when Jack Patterson singled to left field for the 2-0 Hood lead.
• The Spartans finally got on the board in the top of the sixth.
Lucas Prendergast kicked off the inning with a single to right center. The Blazers retired the next two Spartans before
Gabe Trevena drew a two out walk.
Michael Tinneny singled up the middle to score Prendergast.
Andrew Santarpia drew a walk to load the bases but the Blazers got out of the frame without any further damage.
• Hood got that run right back in the bottom of the sixth on a Reyna RBI single. York got a two-out single from Prendergast in the top of the seventh but he would remain at first when the game ended.

How It Happened
• The Spartans opened the scoring in the top of the second as
Jacob Deimling double to right center to kick off the inning. Deimling was bunted over to third by
Brendan Martin, and then scored on a
Lucas Prendergast infield single.
• The Blazers answered in the bottom of the second as Stephen Sommer singled to lead off the frame. He moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and to third on a Ty Schwarzman single to left. Jack Patterson plated Sommer with a sacrifice fly to left.
• Hood threatened in the fourth as they got a hit batter and a single to put runners at first and second. The runners each moved up 90 feet with a Christian Reyna sacrifice bunt. The Blazers tried the squeeze the go-ahead run home but Spartan starter
Bryce Shaffer was able to field the ball and throw to catcher
Emidio Bucci to get the runner coming in from third, keeping the score tied at one.
• York got the eventual winning run in the top of the sixth.
Robby Elzinga walked to lead off the inning. He moved to second on a wild pitch and to third on a sacrifice bunt by
Gabe Trevena.
Michael Tinneny plated Elzinga with a single up the middle for the 2-1 lead. The Spartans eventually put runners at second and third with one out but the Blazer bullpen got a pop up and a strikeout to end the Spartan threat.
• Shaffer finished strong as he pitched six innings before giving way to reliever
Ethan Kennedy in the seventh. Kennedy retired the Blazers in order in the seventh to notch his third save of the year.
