ELVERSON, PA – The York College men's golf squad concluded the first round of the Alvernia Spring Invitational in second place at Stonewall North Course in Elverson, PA on Monday.
The Spartans finished with a team score of 294, which tied their best team score of the year. York is one stroke back of tournament leader Eastern as the Eagles shot 293 on Monday. The tournament features 12 teams including four other MAC Commonwealth teams.
Senior
Riley Rohlfs led the way for York as he was brilliant with a two-under-par 68 on Monday. He had a birdie and a bogey on the opening nine as he shot an even-par 35. Rohlfs was two-under on the back as he is tied for second in the tournament.
Sophomore
Jason Velez sits inside the top ten after he shot a four-over-par 74 in the opening round. Velez was three-over on the front side but finished the round with eight straight pars as he shot a one-over 36 on the back.
Senior
Nick Fioravante and sophomores
Matthew Salter and
Gavin Ganter all shot 76 during the opening round to tie for 18
th in the tournament field. Fioravante shot 38 on both nines to finish with his 76. Salter shot 39 on the front and then came back to shoot 37 on the inward nine. Ganter started strong with a one-over 36 on the front before shooting a 40 on the back nine.
The tournament resumes tomorrow at LedgeRock Golf club in Mohnton, PA with a shotgun start at noon.
