How It Happened
• The Spartans kicked off the scoring in the first as Robby Elzinga singled and then scored on Gabe Trevena's RBI single to center, putting York up 1-0, two batters into the game. The Diplomats answered with a pair of unearned runs off sophomore starter Bryce Shaffer.
• The game remained 2-1 until the top of the fifth when the Spartans tied the game at two. Trevena had an RBI ground out with the bases loaded to tie the game. A double play got the Diplomats out of the inning as they surrendered just one run.
• Another Spartan error played a key role in the Diplomats pushing across the go ahead run in the bottom of the fifth. The Diplomats got another pair of unearned runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 5-2 lead.
• York responded with a three-spot of their own in the top of the seventh as they tied the game at five. Trevena singled in Emidio Bucci from second base for the first run. Trevena then advanced all the way to third on a failed pick off at first. Michael Tinneny plated Trevena with an RBI double. Tinneny came around to score on a Diplomat error.
• The Dips took the lead for good in the seventh as Bobby Falese had a one out RBI single to give F&M a 6-5 lead. The hosts tacked on a pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth to salt away the win.
