LANCASTER, PA – The York College men's tennis team got back on the winning side of the ledger on Thursday as they downed Lancaster Bible College 8-1 in a non-conference match at the Hempfield Rec Center.
The Spartans improve to 3-4 overall while the Chargers fall to 6-2.
York captured all three doubles points but two of the matches were very close. The Spartan first doubles tandem of
Tej Laliwala and
Evan Stehman had to grind out a tough 8-7 (8-6) win over Devon Clemmer and Josh Jarvis.
Jack Leinbach and
Ben Dorsey posted a tight 8-6 second doubles in over Micah Weaver and AJ Kwiatowski.
Hayden Musser and
Jason Lutz cruised to an 8-2 third doubles win as York took the early 3-0 lead.Â
Laliwala kicked off singles play with a crisp 6-1, 6-4 win over Clemmer in the first singles match. Leinbach cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 second singles victory over Weaver. The Chargers picked up their lone win in the third singles match to break up the shutout. Dorsey posted a 6-4, 6-2 fourth singles victory for the Green and White.
Lance Fries had to battle for a fifth singles victory as he outlasted Kwiatkowski 3-6, 6-4, 13-10.
Grant Haffner closed out the match with a 1-6, 6-3, 10-7 win over Caleb Cavaiani in the sixth singles match.
The Spartans return to action on Saturday, March 25 as they kick off a three-match home stand with a non-conference match up against St. Mary's College. The match is slated for a 1:00 pm start at the Myers Tennis Complex.
