MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The York College baseball squad closed out their 2023 Myrtle Beach Spring Trip with an 11-8 win over Cabrini on Wednesday afternoon in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
The Spartans took an early lead and then hung on as the Cavaliers made a late run before York closed out the game in the ninth.

How It Happened
• After two scoreless innings, the Spartans got on the board in the third.
Robby Elzinga opened the inning with a lead off infield single.
Gabe Trevena then ripped a triple to right center, scoring Elzinga for the 1-0 York lead. Trevena came around to score on a
Michael Tinneny single up the middle for the 2-0 York advantage.
• York was back at it in the fifth as Elzinga singled with one out to start the inning. Elzinga stole second and moved to third on a Trevena infield single. A Cavalier error loaded the bases for York.
Andrew Santarpia singled to score Elzinga.
Brendan Martin walked to push across Trevena for the 4-0 lead. Tinneny scored on a wild pitch as York took a 5-0 advantage.
• The Cavaliers came roaring back in the bottom of the sixth as they scored four runs on five hits, trimming the York lead to 5-4.
• York added a run in the seventh with a Santarpia RBI single. The Cavaliers responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the seventh as York took a 6-5 lead to the eighth.
• The Green and White had a four-run inning in the eighth. Elzinga had a two-run single while Santarpia also had a two-run single as the Spartan lead grew to 10-5. The Cavaliers responded with two runs of their own in the eighth as York carried a three-run lead to the ninth.

Bryce Shaffer gave York an insurance run in the ninth as he ripped a double down the left field like scoring
Chris Nesensohn, who singled with one out in the inning. The Cavaliers got that run back but
Yandel Tolentino came out of the Spartan pen to close the door and get the final three outs of the game.
