#10 Spartans Rout #19 Ursinus in Home Opener

YORK, Pa. - A hot start fueled a 21-10 victory for No. 10 York men's lacrosse over No. 19 Ursinus on Wednesday in the Spartans' home opener.

The Spartans set the tone from the start and came out flying as they jumped out to a four-goal lead less than four minutes into the game and held a 12-goal advantage by halftime. Will Harnick led the onslaught with four of his game-high five goals in the first half with Jack Grayson assisting Harnick on three of his tallies.

Team Records
#19 Ursinus 1-1
#10 York 1-1

How It Happened
Will Harnick tallied two goals in the first 80 seconds which sprung a 4-0 Spartan run through the first 3:30 of the game. The Bears got two back and cut the lead in half with 8:31 left in the first quarter after they capitalized on a pair of York turnovers. Vinny Facciponti won the ensuing faceoff following Ursinus' second tally and took himself for his first goal of the season. Ames Clark found the back of the net with 21 ticks left in the period which capped off a 9-3 first quarter rout.

The Spartans dominated the second quarter as they out-scored the Bears, 6-0, while limiting Ursinus to just five shots and two faceoff wins. Jack Grayson connected with Harnick twice on the Spartans' man-up unit as York took an 18-3 lead into the halftime break.

York piled up three more goals to begin the third, including one by Davis Fisher on the extra-man unit which registered as his first-career tally. The Spartan defense shut out the Bears on their first six possessions of the third quarter with Ethan Greene and Zach Mentzer causing turnovers for the Green and White. The Bears would eventually get back on the board with 1:49 left in the period which snapped a 31-minute scoring drought. The two teams would trade goals in the final 69 seconds as the Spartans took a 19-5 advantage into the fourth.

The Spartan man-up unit found the back of the net one more time early in the fourth quarter as Harnick set up JD Townsend to cap off a 4-for-6 effort for the Spartans in extra-man opportunities. Less than a minute after Townsend's tally, Michael Russo finished off a feed from Jackson Shields on a quick strike in transition with the Spartans playing short-handed at the time. The Bears had the final say as they finished the game on a four-goal run to reach double-digits.
