ST. DAVIDS, Pa. - The York volleyball capped the 2023 season Wednesday night as the fourth-seed Spartans fell, 3-1, at No. 1 seed Eastern in a MAC Commonwealth Semifinal match.

Team Records
York 17-12
Eastern 26-3

How It Happened
  • The Eagles racked up 16 kills and owned a .780 sideout percentage as they steadily pulled away from the Spartans to a 25-18 victory in the first set. Eastern shifted the tide in their favor with a 9-2 run which turned a 5-5 tie into a 14-7 Eagle lead. From that point on, the two teams scored 11 points each which maintained the Eastern lead. Logan Martin fueled Eastern's pivotal run with four kills during that span.
  • Eastern led wire-to-wire on their way to a 25-13 victory in the second set. The Eagles jumped out a 6-0 lead to start the set and extended that lead to an 11-3 advantage which forced a York timeout. Out of the break, the Eagles continued to steadily increase their lead as they reached 20 points while still holding York to single digits.
  • The Spartans led from start to finish in the third set as they claimed a 25-21 win. York put Eastern in a 6-1 hole out of the gates which forced an Eagle timeout and set the tone for the set. Abby Diehl notched two service aces to go along with three Spartan kills on that opening 6-1 run. The Spartans increased their lead to 18-9 and seemingly put the set out of reach, but the Eagles made a late push as they out-scored York 12-7 the rest of the way and even cut the deficit to three at point. Liz Kerin led all players with four kills in the set while hitting a perfect 1.000.
  • York and Eastern found themselves in a tight battle early in the fourth set before the Eagles pulled away to a 25-15 victory to clinch the match. A Diehl ace pulled York within three (15-12) of the Eastern lead, but the Eagles slammed the door shut as they out-gained the Spartans 10-3 the rest of the way and finished the set hitting .300 collectively.
