YORK, PA – The University of Mary Washington Eagles outscored the host York College Spartans 21-9 in the fourth quarter to sneak away with a 64-59 win in the championship game of the 16
th Annual Coaches vs. Cancer Classic in York on Saturday. The Spartans led 50-43 heading into the fourth quarter before the 20
th ranked Eagles had a big quarter to capture their first Coaches vs. Cancer title.
The Eagles improve to 3-0 while the Spartans fall to 1-1.

How It Happened
• The game was highly competitive from the start. The game was tied at eight just under four minutes into the game.
Taylor Burda buried a three to give York an 11-8 lead. The Eagles came back to tie the game at 14 on a pair of Keagan Schwab free throws. York ended the quarter on an 8-1 run as they led 22-15 after 10 minutes of play.
• York started the second quarter by pushing their lead to nine twice with the second time coming on a
Breana Grim fast break lay-up with 7:02 left in the quarter. The Eagles spent the remainder of the half out scoring York 15-6 to tie the game at 32 at the half. After the Spartans shot 57% in the first quarter, the Eagles held York to 20% shooting in the second quarter. Mary Washington outscored York 17-10 in the second stanza.
• The Eagles scored the first bucket out of the break but the Spartans went on a 9-1 spurt to take a 41-35 lead with 5:56 left in the quarter. The squads would trade bucket over the final five minutes of the quarter as York took the seven point lead to the fourth.
• After tournament MVP Jordan Carpenter opened the quarter with a bucket, the Spartans went on a 5-0 run to push the lead to ten at 55-45. Unfortunately for York, the Eagles climbed their way back into the game with a 9-0 run as they trailed 55-54 after a Sydney Sherman jumper with 3:33 left in the game.
Taylor Brenneman hit a jumper to halt the run but Carpenter converted a three-point play to tie the game at 57 with 2:43 remaining. Sherman hit a pair of free throws with 1:27 left to give the Eagles a lead they wouldn't relinquish. UMW finished the game on a 7-2 run to pull away for the five-point win.
