YORK, PA – The York College women's tennis squad dropped a tight 5-4 decision to Penn State Harrisburg in a non-conference match in York.
The Spartans fall to 0-3 as they are still in search of their first fall win. The Lions improve to 1-4 as they have won three straight against York. All three of those wins have been identical 5-4 scores.
The Spartans jumped out to an early lead by winning two of the three doubles points. The second doubles team of
Maddi Haggerty and
Hannah Sult rolled to an 8-0 win, giving York the first point of the day.
Eleanor Beck and
Kennedy Conte earned an 8-2 third doubles win for York. The first doubles team of
Elsa Oestermarker and
Bri Serruto dropped a tight 8-6 decision as the Lions got on the board before singles play.
The Lions captured the first four singles matches to earn the team victory. York was able to notch wins at fifth and sixth singles. Beck posted a 6-1, 6-0 fifth singles win while Conte earned her first collegiate singles win with a 6-0, 6-0 sixth singles victory for York.
The Spartans return to action on Friday, October 13 to kick off a busy weekend by hosting Gettysburg College in a make-up match. The Spartans and Bullets play at 3:30 pm Friday followed by a road match at Marymount on Saturday and another home match against Rutgers-Camden on Sunday. Those three matches will conclude the fall portion of the Spartans' schedule.
