How It Happened
• The Spartans took the play to the Gulls in the opening 15 minutes of play. The Green and White had a trio of penalty corners and one shot on goal as they spent a majority of time in their offensive end of the field.
• The second quarter was the exact opposite as the Sea Gulls carried the play. Salisbury out shot York 4-1 in the quarter as
Belle Fields made a pair of saves to keep the game scoreless.
• The third period was full of action including the game's lone goal. In the eighth minute of the quarter, the Sea Gulls got a break away on a Spartan turnover just inside midfield. They turned that chance into a goal from Marli McDorman as she carried the breakaway into the circle and carried it from the right to the left before unleashing a backhanded shot that snuck inside the right post for her team-leading eighth goal of the season.
• The Spartans had a bunch of chances in the final minute of the period. York drew a penalty corner with 54 seconds left in the third.
Maycee Collison hit a shot that was cleared off the line by defender Hannah Johnson. The Spartans earned another corner seven seconds later and this time,
Libby Wild fired off a shot that was saved by Sea Gull goalie Addy O'Connell. York got four more corners over the final 39 seconds of the period but wouldn't be able to find the back of the cage.
• The fourth quarter saw the Sea Gulls content to play possession hockey as they did not attempt a shot in the period. York fired off one shot while both teams had a pair of corners. The Spartans didn't have a great look in the fourth as Salisbury salted away the win.
• The Sea Gulls out shot York 8-7 as both teams had four shots on goal. The Spartans doubled up Salisbury in penalty corners, 12-6.
