YORK, PA – The York College men's tennis team finally got to open their fall campaign as they dropped a 6-3 decision to Randolph-Macon on Sunday in York. The Spartans, who had their first three fall matches postponed by weather, finally got their fall slate underway on a beautiful Sunday in York.
The Spartans are now 0-1 with the loss while Randolph-Macon improves to 1-1.
Randolph-Macon jumped out to a 2-1 lead after the three doubles matches. York's lone doubles win came from the third doubles duo of
Ian Bartles and
Emmet Larson as they rolled past Winston Chapman and Evan Holzmacher 8-1. In the first doubles match, the Spartan duo of
Ben Dorsey and
Evan Stehman dropped a tight 8-7 (7-0) decision to Braxton Fagan and Max Doyle. The Yellow Jackets earned an 8-6 second doubles win for Randolph-Macon.
Randolph-Macon was victorious in the first four singles matches as Max Hammock (first singles), Doyle and Mitch Herman each won in straight sets.
Jason Lutz extended Fagan in the second singles match as Fagan earned a 6-2, 3-6, 11-9 win.
York's two singles wins came from Larson in the fifth singles match as he notched a 7-5, 6-2 victory. Bartles out-lasted Holzmacher 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 sixth singles win.
The Spartans return to action on Thursday when they travel to Carlisle to take on the Dickinson College Red Devils in a non-conference contest. The match is slated for a 4:00 pm start.
