WILKES-BARRE, PA – The York College field hockey team put together another complete performance as they downed Wilkes 6-0 in a non-conference contest in Wilkes-Barre, PA on Saturday afternoon. The Spartans improve to 2-0 while the Colonels fall to 1-1.
Six different Spartans scored the goals while the York defense posted its second shutout of the year.

How It Happened
• The Spartans dominated the opening 15 minutes of play but didn't have much to show for it until late in the quarter when
Riley Buschert scored her first goal of the year off a Wilkes turnover in York's offensive third. That capped a quarter in which the Spartans out shot their hosts 12-1 including 7-1 in shots on goal. The Spartans also had a 5-0 bulge in penalty corners.
• York made it 2-0 just 2:10 into the second quarter off their sixth corner of the day.
Reese Hardman inserted a pass to
Carrie Shuey at the top of the circle. Shuey hit a ball toward cage that Hardman tipped in for the 2-0 Spartan lead. Â Shuey struck for a goal of her own 35 seconds later as she scooped up a loose ball just beyond the top of the circle. She took a few touches and then hit a shot that found the back of the cage for the 3-0 lead.
• The second quarter offensive pace slowed dramatically after the two goals as York was able to get off another two shots over the final 12 minutes of the quarter. The Spartans would settle for a 3-0 halftime lead.
• York struck again two minutes into the second half as
Maggie Spadafora found
Hannah Huffman for the goal. The tally was Huffman's first of the year. The Spartans pushed the lead to 5-0 with 3:10 left in the third as
Kat Knox scored off a loose ball in front of the cage for her second goal of the year. The Spartans continued to press in the third and junior
Sara Pique registered her first collegiate goal with 2:07 remaining in the quarter to give York the 6-0 lead.
• York dominated the third quarter, out shooting Wilkes 14-0 with 12 of those shots coming on goal. Wilkes goalie Carly Eidle made nine saves in the quarter to keep it from being a more lopsided score. Â
• The Spartans had some chances in the fourth but did not convert as they settled for the six-goal win.
