Volleyball Falls 3-1 at LVC

ANNVILLE, Pa. - The Spartan women's volleyball opened a new week of play Tuesday night with a 3-1 setback at Lebanon Valley in a MAC Commonwealth match.

Team Records
Lebanon Valley 9-4 (2-2 MACC)
York 8-5 (2-2 MACC)

How It Happened
  • A few Spartan miscues late led to a 27-25 opening set win for the Dutchmen. A Claire Shorb kill gave York match point with a 24-23 lead, but the Spartans handed the Dutchmen three more points and Julia Rill ultimately sealed the set for LVC with a clinching kill. Megan Rizzi led all players with four of York's 11 kills in the opening set.
  • The Spartans battled back from an early six-point deficit to even up the match with a 25-22 win in the second set. York fell behind 13-7 and came back to tie the set, 15-15, on an 8-2 run led by a pair of kills from Shannon Salo. A Dutchmen attack error put York ahead, 17-16, and the Spartans never relinquished the lead from there as they held an 8-6 scoring margin down the stretch.
  • Lebanon Valley held off a York comeback bid to prevail, 25-20, in the third set. The Spartans found themselves in a six-point hole for the second-straight set and again fought back to tie the set, 19-19, as Shorb led the way with three kills. The two sides traded points before the Dutchmen slammed the door with a 5-0 run to end the set fueled by a trio of service aces.
  • LVC rushed out to a 13-6 lead to force a Spartan timeout. Out of the break, the Dutchmen kept a safe distance between themselves and York until the Spartans assembled a 6-1 run to cut the deficit to 19-17. LVC quickly regained momentum with three-straight points to take a 22-17 advantage and held off the Spartans the rest of the way to clinch the set and the match, 25-20.
