#25 Spartans Draw, 1-1, with St. Mary's on Late Seahawk Tally

YORK, Pa. - After leading for 79 minutes, the 25th-ranked York men's soccer team saw that lead disappear in an instant as St. Mary's netted a goal in the closing seconds to earn a 1-1 draw at Graham Field on Wednesday night.

Team Records
St. Mary's 1-1-4
#25 York 3-0-2

How It Happened
  • The Spartans got on the board in the 10th minute with a quick transition up the field. Tyler Howlett received a pass in the middle at the 40-yard line and played a thru ball wide right to Jack Mitzelfelt who then played it back to the middle to Luke Nall who one-touched it to the low left corner.
  • Brady Bixler came up with numerous big plays throughout the first half, including several in the final five minutes to preserve the lead heading into halftime. The Spartan keeper denied Jack Eskay on a header attempt from seven yards out in the 43rd minute and then intercepted a dangerous Eskay cross into the box in the final minute of the half.
  • The Seahawks kept knocking on the door as the second half wore on with six shots and four corner kicks in the last 12 minutes. Their persistence paid off in the closing seconds as Lucca Mazzola drove to the right end line and sent a cross into the box where Thomas Williamson rose up out of the crowd and sent a header to the upper right corner of the goal.

Up Next
The Spartans continue their home stand Saturday with a late afternoon tilt with Bridgewater (Va.)

Notes
York is now 30-9-2 against St. Mary's with the draw tonight snapping a four-game skid for the Spartans against the Seahawks … the Spartans are now off to their first undefeated start through their first five games since 2009 when they began the season 4-0-1 that year and did not lose a game through their first 10 contests… Jack Mitzelfelt extended his point streak to four-straight games after getting the primary assist on Luke Nall's goal.
