HARRISBURG, PA – The York College men's golf team opened their 2022-23 season with a trip to Dauphin Highlands to participate in The Gauntlet Tournament on Sunday and Monday.
The Spartans finished tied for fifth in the 14-team field as they shot a two-day total of 588. York shot identical totals of 294 as the Spartans were six over par in both rounds.
McDaniel won the team total at 583 followed by Drew at 548. Washington and Jefferson was third at 586 while Dickinson placed fourth at 587, one stroke in front of York and Gettysburg in fifth.
Senior
Nick Fioravante and sophomore
Gavin Ganter tied for the team lead for the tournament as they both shot 145 for the weekend. Fioravante carded a one-over-par 73 on Sunday followed by an even par 72 on Monday. Ganter was one-under on Sunday with a 71 followed by a two-over-par 74 on Monday. The duo finished six strokes back of Gettysburg's Daniel Suter who won the individual title with a score of 139. Suter shot 69 on Sunday and 70 on Monday for his winning five under score.
Senior
Riley Rohlfs was York's third finisher in the tournament as he tied for 21
st with a two-day score of 147. Rohlfs shot a two-over-par 74 on Sunday followed by a one-over-par 73 on Monday. Rohlfs finished two strokes out of a top 13 finish in the tournament.
Sophomore
Matthew Salter was York's fourth scorer in the tournament as he placed tied for 35
th. Salter shot a four-over-par 76 on Sunday. He shaved one stroke off that score on Monday with a 75 as he finished with a score of 151. Senior
Ian Arnold was York's fifth tournament participant and he finished one stroke back of Salter overall at 152. Arnold finished in a tie for 43
rd as he shot 77 on Sunday followed by a 75 on Monday.
The Spartans do not return to action until Saturday, October 1 when they head to Waynesboro Country Club to participate in the Mason-Dixon Collegiate Classic co-hosted by McDaniel and Gettysburg. The two day tournament kicks off on Saturday at 12:00 pm.
