Softball Drops A Pair in Competitive Sunday Round Robin

YORK, Pa. - The York softball team lost a pair of competitive contests to Susquehanna and No. 2 Salisbury on Sunday in a round robin tripleheader at Spartan Stadium. The Spartans fell, 7-2, to Susquehanna in game one of the day and were edged out, 3-1, by No. 2 Salisbury in the late game.

Elle Meyer led the Spartans with four hits and a .500 batting average on the day, and scored one of the team's three runs on the afternoon. Alyssa Harhigh led the team with two RBI as she hit .375 on the day with a home run and scored a run.

York 11-5
Susquehanna 11-4

Pitchers of Record
WP: Gabby Bubba (5-2)
LP: Hannah Vogt (3-3)

How It Happened
The River Hawks took advantage of Spartan defensive errors early and broke open a 5-0 lead through the first three innings of play.

Back-to-back defensive blunders with two outs in the first inning eventually set the table for Zoe Bork who roped a two-run double down the left field line for Susquehanna's first runs of the ball game. The River Hawks slugged three more runs on the board with two hits in the third.

The Spartans left six runners stranded through the first four innings, but finally drove some runners in in the fifth. York took advantage of a Susquehanna pitching change in the fifth as Elle Meyer led off the inning with a single and then came in to score when Alyssa Harhigh hammered a home run to center field.

After giving up the home run, Katie Murphy did not allow a hit the rest of the way and earned the save for Susquehanna as her offense gave her two more runs in support.

GAME 2
Team Records

#2 Salisbury 26-2
York 11-6

Pitchers of Record
WP: Lindsey Windsor (11-0)
LP: Taylor Lindsay (8-2)

How It Happened
Salisbury's Carly Galbraith broke up a scoreless game with a solo blast to left center to put the Gulls on top. Salisbury looked for more in the frame, but Daphney Adams put an end to their plans by throwing out Kat Nashold attempting to steal second which ended the inning.

The Sea Gulls put up two runs on four hits in the third as they started the inning double, triple, single, single. With two runners still on and just one out, Taylor Lindsay worked out of the jam with minimal damage as she got consecutive batters to pop up to end the inning.

The Spartan offense came to life in the fourth. After Adams led off the inning with a ground out, Emma Wade, Emma Keller and Lindsay knocked back-to-back-to-back singles to load the bases. Emily Netterville came off the bench and produced an RBI with a ground out to second.

Unfortunately, the one run was all York would get as Salisbury hurler Lindsey Windsor got Natalie Decena to also ground out to second to end the fourth inning. Windsor surrendered just two more hits through the final three innings as the Spartans failed to get another runner in scoring position.

Up Next
The Spartans return to Commonwealth play next Saturday in a home doubleheader with Eastern.
