YORK, PA – The York College softball squad earned a non-conference doubleheader sweep of Juniata College on a beautiful Sunday afternoon in York. The Spartans won game one 11-6 and completed the sweep with a 4-1 win in the nightcap.
The Spartans have won three straight and five of their last six.

How It Happened
• The Spartans got off to a quick start in the bottom of the first. After a pair of strikeouts to start the bottom of the inning, Alyssa Harhigh was hit by a pitch. She then scored when Daphney Adams doubled down the left field line. Adams then came around to score on an Emma Wade double to deep center to put York up 2-0.
• The Eagles put together a four-run inning in the fourth. Juniata got their four runs on four hits and a Spartan error to take a 4-2 lead. York tied the game in the bottom of the inning on a Kaela Fritz RBI single and a Taylor Lindsay sacrifice fly.
• York blew the game open in the next two innings as the Spartans scored three in the fifth and four more in the sixth. In the fifth, Harhigh had an RBI double while Adams followed with a sacrifice fly. Wade then singled home Harhigh as York took a 7-4 lead. In the sixth, York scored their four runs on four hits and a pair of Eagle errors as they took a 11-4 lead.
• Juniata got a pair of runs in the top of the seventh to provide for the final 11-6 Spartan margin of victory.

How It Happened
• York wasted little time in getting on the board in the bottom of the first. Elle Meyer singled to open the game. Alyssa Harhigh singled to put runners at first and second. Daphney Adams then cleared the bases with a bomb to dead left field for the 3-0 Spartan lead. The home run was Adams' team-leading fifth of the year.
• York made it 4-0 in the second as Kaela Fritz walked to lead off the inning. She moved to second on a wild pitch and to third on a ground out. Meyer then doubled to right center to score Fritz.
• The Eagles got on the board in the third thanks to a Ruthie Betts RBI single. The inning ended when the Spartans cut down a second runner at the plate on Betts' single.
• Spartan starter Hannah Vogt allowed just one more base runner over the final four innings of the game as she was outstanding in the win.

York improves to 19-17 all-time against the Eagles as the Spartans have won seven straight in the series … York committed just one error the two games as they have been errorless in three of their last four games … the Spartans banged out four doubles in the game one win, tied for the second-highest total of the year … York improves to 7-7 overall at home after their 3-1 weekend … freshman Emma Wade took over the team lead in RBI as she now has 30 for the year followed closely by Alyssa Harhigh with 29 … Daphney Adams took over the team lead in home runs with five … Elle Meyer continues to lead the team in average at .426 which is good for third in the MAC Commonwealth individual statistics.

The Spartans return to action on Wednesday afternoon as they host Stevenson University in a key MAC Commonwealth twin bill at Spartan Stadium. The games will be York's final home games of the 2022 season. First pitch for game one is set for 3:00 pm.
