READING, PA – The York College men's tennis squad earned their second straight win as they downed Albright College 8-1 n MAC Commonwealth play on Sunday in Reading, PA.
The Spartans improve to 3-7 overall and 3-3 in the conference while the Lions fall to 5-9 overall and 1-5 in the league.
York got off to a great start in doubles play as the Spartans' first and third doubles squads each posted 8-0 wins. First doubles team of
Tej Laliwala and
Jack Leinbach beat Zapata Hernandez and Kobe Serpa while the third doubles team of
Ben Dorsey and
Hayden Musser blanked Mike Vogt and Nick Bush. In the second doubles match, York's
Evan Stehman and
Lance Fries combined to defeat Arpit Gainder and Clay Lewandowski 8-4.
In singles play, Laliwala earned a 6-2, 6-0 first singles win over Hernandez. Dorsey rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 third singles win over Serpa. Fries also dominated his match as he beat Vogt in the fourth singles match 6-0, 6-1.
Matthew Christian outlasted Lewandowski 6-3, 6-4 in the fifth singles contest while Musser posted a 6-3, 6-0 win over Nick Bush in the sixth singles match.
The Spartans conclude their 2022 regular season on Saturday afternoon as they host Alvernia University. The winner of the match will earn the fifth and final seed into the MAC Commonwealth championship tournament. The match is slated for a 1:00 pm start in York.
