YORK, PA – The Spartan men's tennis team earned a big 7-2 MAC Commonwealth win over Eastern University on Saturday afternoon in York.
The victory was the Spartans' second in their last four matches as they improve to 2-7 overall and 2-3 in the Commonwealth. The Eagles fall to 4-5 overall and 2-4 in the league.
The Spartans opened the match with three wins in doubles play.
Tej Laliwala and
Jack Leinbach outlasted Bryan Levi and Darren Lopez 8-6 in first doubles action.Â
Evan Stehman and
Lance Fries downed Nick Wool and Cole Patti 8-5 in the second doubles match. The tandem of
Ben Dorsey and
Hayden Musser cruised to an 8-1 win in the third doubles contest as York took a 3-0 lead to singles play.
Eastern got on the board in the first singles match as Levi beat Laliwala 6-3, 6-4. Leinbach posted a 6-1, 7-5 second singles win to put York up 4-1. Stehman posted a come-from-behind win over Wool, outlasting the Eagle 6-7 (6-8), 7-5, 10-7 in the third singles match.
Dorsey registered a 6-0, 6-0 win over Lopez. Fries earned a 6-0, 6-0 win of his own over Jacob Devage in the fifth singles match. Ryan Kratz earned the Eagles second point of the match with a 6-3, 6-4 sixth singles victory.
The Spartans return to action on Sunday when they head to Reading to take on Albright in a Commonwealth contest. The match is slated for an 11:00 am start.
