YORK, PA – The York College men's tennis team dropped a 5-1 decision to Grove City in a non-conference match on Thursday in York. The match was played at the Wisehaven Tennis Center due to the threat of rain.
The Wolverines improve to 12-2 overall as they have won nine straight. The Spartans snapped the Wolverines three match shutout streak. York falls to 1-7 overall with the setback.
Grove City got off to a strong start as they swept the three doubles points. Gavin Miller and Josiah Newton downed
Tej Laliwala and
Evan Stehman 8-3 in the first doubles contest. Jameson Sposato and Wesley Kiehl earned an 8-3 win over
Lance Fries and
Hayden Musser in the second doubles contest. The Wolverines completed the sweep as Nathan Clark and Adam Sharnagl combined to defeat York's
Ben Dorsey and
Jeremy Handler 8-2 in the third doubles match.
Miller opened singles play with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Stehman as the Wolverines took a 4-0 lead. York's
Scott Miller earned York's lone win as he defeated Jonathan Sralla 3-6, 6-4, 10-8 in the sixth singles match.
Grove City's Eric Riddle closed out the match with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over
Matthew Christian in the fourth singles match. The second, third, and fifth singles matches were unfinished after the Wolverines captured the fifth point in the match.
The Spartans return to action on Saturday as they face off against Eastern University in a MAC Commonwealth contest. The match kicks off the final three matches of the regular season. Saturday's action kicks off at 1:00 pm at the Spartan Tennis Centre.
