OWINGS MILLS, MD – The York College men's tennis squad dropped an 8-1 decision at Stevenson University in MAC Commonwealth action in Owings Mills, Maryland on a chilly Tuesday afternoon.
The Mustangs improve to 7-9 overall and 4-1 in the league while the Spartans fall to 1-6 and 1-3 in the league.
The Spartans picked up their lone win of the match in the number one doubles matchup as
Tej Laliwala and
Evan Stehman combined to earn an 8-4 win over Larry Johnson and JJ Bonta. The Mustangs won the second doubles 8-4 and the third doubles match 8-2 to take the 2-1 lead to singles play.
The Mustangs got a pair of wins thanks Spartan retirements in the first and fourth singles matches to take the 4-1 lead. Bonta cruised in the third singles match, 6-1, 6-1 while Sathwik Madasi rolled to a 6-1, 6-0 fifth singles win. Stevenson's Niko Bifsas earned a 6-2, 6-3 sixth singles win while Johnson survived against Stehman 6-4, 4-6, 10-3 in the second singles match.
York returns to action on Thursday to face Grove City in a non-conference contest. The match is set for a 2:30 pm start. Â
