#12 Spartans Rack Up Fifth-Straight Commonwealth Win

YORK, Pa. - No. 12 York women's lacrosse rolled to their fifth-straight Commonwealth victory of the season with a 20-8 win over Hood Wednesday night at Kinsley Field.

Freshman Gianna Huet had a huge day offensively as she compiled a season-high seven points on a season-best five goals. Chloe MacDonald also had another big all-around performance with a season-high tying five points to go along with six draw controls.

How It Happened
York opened up a 4-0 lead less than five minutes after the first draw and owned a 9-2 lead after one period of play. Gianna Huet racked up four goals in the opening period to go along with an assist, while Logan Ward dished out a trio of assists. The Spartans also owned an 8-4 edge in draw controls, led by Chloe MacDonald's three.

Zoe Kluegel led the Spartans with a pair of goals in the second quarter to help York own a 13-4 lead at halftime. Hood goalie Sophia Vilaca Kept York in check as she limited the Spartans to just four second quarter goals as she made a staggering seven saves in the period.

The Blazers cut the deficit to eight twice in the first half of the third quarter, but Madison Kurland gave York a 10-goal advantage (16-6) just past the midway point of the period. Hood cut the lead to nine with less than five minutes in the third, but Jenna Cholowinski increased the gap back to 10 with 3:59 left and the Spartans kept the clocking running the rest of the way.

York improves to 10-0 all-time against Hood … the Spartans have now won nine-straight conference games dating back to last season and are just two wins away from tying the program-record win streak … York caused a season-high 15 turnovers on the day, led by Nesiah Bertram, Teresa Matthias and Zoe Kluegel who each recorded three CTs … Gianna Huet's seven points on the day are the most by a Spartan this season.
