YORK, PA – The York College baseball team saw a nine-run lead evaporate as Delaware Valley scored 11 unanswered runs in their 11-10 victory in ten innings at Jaquet Field on Wednesday afternoon.
The Spartans raced out to a 9-0 lead through four innings but the Aggies scored 11 runs over the final five innings to snatch the road victory.

How It Happened
• The Spartans opened the scoring in the bottom of the first as
Robby Elzinga and
Austin Denlinger registered back-to-back bunt singles to put runners at first and second. After a strikeout,
Joe Capobianco launched a three-run shot to deep left for the 3-0 lead. York added a fourth run in the frame as
Brendan Martin singled and scored on a
Michael Tinneny double off the wall in right.
•
Brian Jakubek opened the second inning with another bunt single followed by an Elzinga walk. Denlinger then hit a bomb to deep left for the 7-0 Spartan lead.
• Capobianco struck again in the fourth as he launched a two run homer that just cleared the center field wall as the lead grew to 9-0.
• The Aggies started their comeback in the fifth. Hank Bielen got Delaware Valley on the board with a grand slam with one out in the inning. Kenny Tunison followed that up with a homer off the right field foul pole, cutting the York lead to 9-5.
• Delaware Valley added a trio of runs in the sixth as they continued to pressure the Spartans. Shawne Eldridge had an RBI single down the left field line. Bielen followed with a single to center to load the bases. Tunison grounded into a double play to score a run and Eldridge scored on a wild pitch as the Spartan lead shrunk to a single run.
• Eldridge capped the comeback with a lead-off home run to left center to start the eighth inning, tying the game at nine. The Aggies put two runners on with an error and a single. After a strikeout, the Aggies failed on a squeeze play as the runner was tagged out after the bunt was missed. York got a strikeout to get out of the inning.
• The Spartans loaded the bases in the sixth and eighth innings but both rallies came up empty as the Aggies were able to wiggle out of trouble without any damage.
• Delaware Valley threatened with two outs in the ninth as they got a single and a double but the lead runner slipped going around third, preventing the run from scoring on the double. The Spartans went quickly in order in the bottom of the ninth, forcing extra innings for the first time this year for the Green and White.
• The Aggies got their first two hitters on in the tenth. Bobby Bright attempted to bunt on the first pitch of his at bat and failed but he poked the second pitch over a drawn in
Jack Barry at first base. However, Capobianco was backing up the play and threw the runner out at the plate for out number one. Garrett Zimmerman gave the Aggies the lead with a single up the middle. DVU got a huge insurance run on pinch hitter Jimmy Kelly's sacrifice fly.
• York started the tenth with a Capobianco double down the left field line. After a strikeout, Martin hit a fly ball that took left fielder Jonathan Drews all the way to the wall as he narrowly missed tying the game. Tinneny singled in Capobianco but an ensuing line out ended the game with the tying run on first.Â
