Men's Tennis Posts Shutout Win over Hood

York earned their first MAC Commonwealth win of the year

YORK, PA – The York College men's tennis team picked up their first win of the year as they shut out Hood College 9-0 in MAC Commonwealth play on Wednesday afternoon in York.

The Spartans improve to 1-5 overall and 1-2 in the Commonwealth while the Blazers fall to 1-7 and 0-4 in the league.

York earned matching 8-2 wins in the first and second doubles play. Tej Laliwala and Jack Leinbach earned their first doubles win over the Hood tandem of Kyle Richardson and Jeff Fleming. The Spartans second doubles team of Hayden Musser and Evan Stehman posted their win over Clifford Hedin and Irafan Hayiarwae for the 2-0 Spartan lead. York completed the sweep of the doubles as the Blazers had to forfeit the third doubles match to Matthew Christian and Lance Fries.

Laliwala earned the first singles match against Richardson as Richardson was forced to retire early in the match. Leinbach defeated Hedin 6-1, 6-0 in the second singles match. Stehman outlasted Fleming 6-0, 6-4 in the third singles match.

Fries rolled past Hayiarwae 6-1, 6-0 in the fourth singles match-up. Christian rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 win over Tobi Aroloye in the fifth singles match. Musser earned a forfeit win in the sixth singles contest.

The Spartans return to action on Tuesday afternoon as they head to Owings Mills, Maryland to face the Stevenson University Mustangs in MAC Commonwealth play. The match is slated for a 3:30 pm start.
