ST. MARY'S CITY, MD – The York College women's tennis team got back on the winning side of the ledger with a 5-4 non-conference win at St. Mary's on Saturday afternoon in St. Mary's City, Maryland.
The Spartans improve to 2-3 overall as they have won two of their last three matches. St. Mary's falls to 3-6 with the loss.
All three doubles matches were competitive. York's first doubles tandem of
Elsa Oestermarker and
Lauren Ostermann combined to post an 8-6 win over Diana Levit and Hannah Gorel. The Seahawks captured the second doubles match 8-6 and the third doubles by a count of 8-4 as St. Mary's took a 2-1 lead to singles play.
Singles play started with Oestermarker picking up a 6-4, 6-1 first singles win over Levit in the first singles match. The Seahawks got a second singles win from Gorel but Ostermann earned a third singles win for the Green and White.
Brianna Rohrer earned a 6-4, 4-6, 10-2 fourth singles win for York in a swing match.
Morrissey Walsh clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-2 fifth singles win.
The Spartans open MAC Commonwealth play on Saturday, April 2 when York heads to Lebanon Valley in a rematch of the 2021 Commonwealth Championship match. The match is set for a 1:00 pm start in Annville, Pa.
