MIDDLETOWN, PA -The York College women's tennis squad opened their 2022 spring schedule with a 5-4 loss to Penn State Harrisburg in Middletown, PA on Sunday afternoon.
The Lions improve to 2-4 overall while the Spartans fall to 1-3 for the campaign. The loss is the Spartans' first to the Lions in the nine-game series between the two schools.
The Spartan first doubles duo of
Elsa Oestermarker and
Lauren Ostermann combined to earn an 8-5 win in their match. The Lions responded by picking up a pair of close second and third doubles matches. The Lions won the second doubles match 8-6 and the third doubles point 8-5.
York was victorious in the first, fifth and sixth singles matches.
Oestermarker rolled to a 6-2, 6-1 first singles victory over Sydney Nye.
Morrissey Walsh earned a 6-3, 6-4 fifth singles win over Sarah Shaub.
Kelsey Sheets outlasted Annalisa Petruscu 7-5, 6-3 in the sixth singles match up.
The Lions won the match with singles wins at two, three, and four.
Michaela Sentz made her second singles match close s she fell to Samantha Bogush 6-4 and 6-3.
The Spartans head back out onto the road next Saturday when they head to St. Mary's City, Maryland to face former CAC foe St. Mary's. The match is slated for a 12:00 pm start.
