How It Happened
  • Jared Kuhns put up a solid fight at 125 and trailed just 2-1 through one period. Kuhns started the second period on top and had a strong ride for over a minute before Garber managed to get to his feet. Kuhns was able to get to his feet quickly after starting the third on bottom, but Garber scored a takedown soon after and tilted Kuhns for a four-count. Kuhns wriggled free off his back and reversed Garber late in the third, but there was not enough time remaining to mount a comeback as Garber earned the 9-4 win.
  • The Huskies opened a margin as they went to post falls at the next three bouts to take a commanding 21-0 lead.
  • At 157, Eric Hutchinson surrendered an early takedown, but scooted out 16 seconds later to get back to neutral. However, Alex Carida worked the upper body and scored another takedown with 32 seconds to go in the first period. Carida quickly got to his feet after starting the second period on bottom and blasted Hutchinson's waist for a takedown 20 seconds in. Hutchinson worked hard to get free, but Carida was too tough on top and rode out the rest of the second period. Carida notched another takedown 35 seconds into the third and posted another in the final minute to solidify the major decision.
  • Timmy Sparks put together a gutsy performance at 165 for the Spartans, but came up just short in the end. Trenton Harder scored a takedown 45 seconds into period one and then rode out the rest of the period on top with a tilt for two along the way. Sparks escaped off bottom quickly to start the second period before getting taken down, but managed to get free again and scored a takedown of his own to cut the deficit to two points heading into the third. Sparks was unable to hold Harder down to start the third, but the Spartan senior did go on to score the next two takedowns. Unfortunately, Sparks  was forced to cut Harder loose both times after the takedowns because of the large riding time advantage Harder built up during the first period, which proved to make the difference in the 10-8 decision.
  • After a scoreless first period Matt Benedetti chose to start the second period on bottom. Kyle Strazdus managed to quickly get Benedetti into a cradle and stuck him on his back 18 seconds into the period.
  • Camden Farrow gave the Spartasn something to feel good about as the Huskies scored bonus-point wins in two of the final three bouts. Farrow went to work early and got a takedown in the first 10 seconds. He tried to work the upper body for a tilt, but David Tuttle managed to get free and had a shot in deep on Farrow, but the Spartan thwarted him off to take a 2-1 lead into the second. Farrow built up 2:13 in riding time before Tuttle could get to his feet after starting the second on bottom. Farrow took Tuttle down in the final 20 seconds and had him in a cradle, but was unable to get Tuttle flat before the period expired. Farrow polished off the bout with one more takedown in the third and earned an extra point as compiled 2:45 of riding time.
