Spartans Taken Down at Hopkins

Blue Jays earn first-ever win over Spartans in 25 meetings

BALTIMORE, Md. - The Spartan men's wrestling team lost a closely-contested dual on the road Friday night, 23-19, in their annual showdown with Johns Hopkins. The win for the Blue Jays marked a historic moment in the all-time series with the York as they snapped a 0-24 losing streak against the Spartans which dated back to 1982.

How It Happened
  • The two teams traded wins to begin the dual with Hopkin's Connor Powell picking up an 8-4 win at 149, but Jared Bair came through with a bonus point on an 8-0 win to York in front, 4-3.
  • The Blue Jays multiplied their point total by nearly six over the next three bouts as they stormed out to a 17-4 lead with three-straight bonus-point victories.
  • Camden Farrow stopped the bleeding with a nine-takedown effort in a 20-9 win over Jon Libby at 197. Samuel Rodriguez kept the momentum going after he pinned Jacob Pomykata in 4:38 to cut the deficit to 17-14 with three bouts left.
  • After a narrow win at 125 to take a six-point lead, Hopkins clinched the dual when Brent Lorin edged out Wilfred Jimenez, 3-1, at 133.
