Spartan Offense Struggles as W&J Posts 10th Straight Win

The Spartans score a season-low 29 points in the road loss to the Presidents

WASHINGTON, PA – The York College women's basketball team ran into a rampaging Washington & Jefferson Presidents squad in non-conference play on Thursday in Washington, PA. The Presidents posted a 55-29 win as they have now won 10 straight games. Washington & Jefferson has not lost since November 12 against Ohio Northern.
The Spartans have lost four of their last five games as they are now 4-8. The Presidents improve to 11-1 overall.

How It Happened
• The Presidents kicked off the game with a 9-0 run as the Spartans started the game going 0-for-10 from the floor and 0-for-3 from distance. Taylor Burda broke the seal on the bucket with a three-pointer to get York on the board with 4:25 left in the first quarter. The Presidents took a 12-6 lead after 10 minutes of play. The Spartans were 2-for-17 (11.8%) from the floor and fortunately, the Spartan defense held the Presidents to 5-for-17 shooting as York was only down six despite their offensive struggles.
• Washington & Jefferson opened the second quarter with a 10-1 run that pushed their lead to 22-7. The Presidents went 4-for-6 during the run including a pair of threes as their lead was 15. York eventually trimmed the lead to nine (26-17) on a Bradi Zumbrum lay-up and an Alyssa Hocker three-point play. The Presidents settled for a 27-17 lead heading to the half.
• The third quarter was offensively challenged for both squads as W&J outscored York 9-4 to take a 36-21 lead to the final quarter of play.
• The Presidents blew the game open in the final period as they outscored York 19-8 to provide for the final 26-point margin of victory.
