Balanced Effort Leads Spartan Men Back to the Win Column

The Spartans shot 58% in the second half to secure the win

GLENSIDE, PA – The York College men's basketball fashioned their most complete effort of the year as they downed Arcadia 76-59 in a MAC Crossover contest on Saturday in Glenside, PA.
York placed four players in double figures led by a double-double from sophomore forward Jackson Mascari.
The win snaps a five-game Spartan losing streak as York improves 3-6 overall. The Knights fall to 4-6 overall.
 
How It Happened
• The Spartans got off to a quick start as they sprinted out to an 11-4 lead capped by a Kai Cipalla three pointer just under five minutes into the game. The Knights cut the Spartan lead to five twice. The second time, York answered with an 8-2 run including five points from freshman Pat Gilhool to cap the spurt. The Knights cut York's lead back to seven on a Darius Isaac three but the Spartans again responded with a 10-0 run to push out to a 33-16 lead. The Knights closed out the final 3:18 of the half with a 7-0 run as they trailed 33-23 at the intermission.
• York got a three pointer from Chris Miers to open the second half to push the lead to 13. The Knights trimmed the Spartan lead to nine early in the half but York quickly pushed the lead back to double figures. York had a quick 7-0 spurt to push their advantage to 16. The Knights got a Dom Vazquez three but York then put together a 13-5 run capped by another Miers triple to take a 58-38 lead. Arcadia wouldn't be able to get any closer than 15 the rest of the way. York led by as many as 22 in the game before settling for the 17-point win.
 
By the Numbers
The 76 points were a season high for the Green and White … the Spartans made a season-high 11 three pointers while they also shot a season-high 39% from distance … overall, the Spartans shot a season-high 50.8% from the floor … the Spartans converted a blistering 58.1% from the floor in the second half as they scored 43 points … York went to the line just four times as they went 1-for-4 from the stripe … the Knights went just 5-for-9 from the line… the Spartans dished out 20 assists, their second highest total of the year (22 vs. Houghton) … the Spartans had ten steals, the fifth time this year that they reached double figures in steals … York was outrebounded by two (34-32) as the Spartans have lost the battle of the boards in six of their nine games … York forced 21 turnovers and turned those miscues into 26 points … York had a 40-28 advantage in paint points … Arcadia put four players in double figures but got just five points from their bench.
 
Spartan Notes
The Spartans are now 3-0 all-time against Arcadia … junior Chris Miers led the Spartans with 21 points while he pulled in a career-high eight rebounds … Miers also set a new career-high with five three pointers made as his 21 points was two short of tying his career high … the 21 point effort from Miers is his second 20-plus point performance of the year and is the fifth double digit effort of the year … he has reached double figures in four of his last five games … sophomore Jackson Mascari notched his third double-double of the year with 15 points and 10 rebounds … Mascari has reached double figures in points in six of his eight games and in rebounding in four games … Mascari also tied his career-high with five assists in the win … freshman Jayden Rowe added ten points, four assists, and two steals for York … freshman Tate Landis chipped in with 11 points, three assists, a rebound and a steal … Landis' 11 points is one game after he set a career-high with 13 against Alvernia on Wednesday … Landis has shot a combined 8-for-12 from the floor and 4-for-7 from three in his last two games … freshman Pat Gilhool tallied a career-high five points in his six minutes on the floor for York.

The Spartans return to the floor on Tuesday evening when they host Penn State Altoona in a non-conference contest. Tip time at Wolf Gymnasium is set for 6:00 pm.
