GREENSBORO, N.C. – The York College men's golf squad closed out the fall portion of their 2022-23 schedule on Tuesday afternoon at the O'Briant Jensen Memorial Tournament in Greensboro, North Carolina.
The Spartans had a much better Tuesday as they improved on their Monday score by 14 strokes as York shot 314 on Tuesday. The Spartans finished 15
th of 18 teams at the tournament with a two-day score of 640.
Christopher Newport cruised to the team title as the Captains' shot a two-day total of 568 to roll to the title. Methodist finished second at 576 followed by Guilford in third place at 585. Carnegie Mellon was fourth (588) while top-ranked Emory rounded out the top five team finishers with a score of 589.
Senior
Riley Rohlfs concluded a successful tournament for himself as he shot an even par 71on day two of the tournament. Rohlfs shot 36 on the front and 35 on the back. He tallied a team-best five birdies for round two. Rohlfs finished tied for 23
rd in the tournament as he shot a two-day total of 149. He finished five strokes out of a top five finish.
Freshman
Jacob Fripp was York's second finisher on Tuesday as he carded a score of 79. He shot 39 on the front followed by a 40 on the back for his 79. Fripp finished the tournament tied for 76
th with a two-day total of 162.
Sophomore
Jason Velez was York's third scorer in the second round as he shot 80. Velez shot 42 on the front nine but rebounded to shoot 38 on the back. He placed tied for 88
th overall with a total score of 166.
York's final scorer on Tuesday was senior
Nick Fioravante as he shot 84. He shot a 40 on the front followed by a 44 on the back nine. Fioravante placed 91
st with a tournament total of 167. Sophomore
Gavin Ganter was York's fifth tournament participant as he shot an 86 on Tuesday. Ganter shot a 44 on the front followed by a 42 on the back. He finished tied for 92
nd overall with a 168.
The Spartans will return to action in March to open the 2023 portion of their schedule. The full spring slate will be released in early December.
