COLLEGEVILLE, PA – The York College women's tennis team suffered a tight 5-4 loss to Ursinus College in a non-conference match on Saturday afternoon in Collegeville, PA.
The Bears improve to 2-0 with the win while the Spartans fall to 2-2.
The Spartans got on top early by taking two of the three doubles points.
Elsa Oestermarker and
Brianna Rohrer combined to grind out an 8-7 (8-6) first doubles win over Allie Armour and Shannon Stewart. The Bears earned the second doubles win but the Spartan tandem of
Hannah Sult and
Claire Bernard picked up an 8-4 third doubles win.
The Bears seized momentum in the opening of the singles matches. The Bears got wins in the first and second singles matches. The Spartans got a 6-1, 6-1 fourth singles win from Roher while
Morrissey Walsh posted a 6-4, 6-1 fifth singles win to put the Spartans up 4-3. Ursinus's Bella Vassalluzzo defeated
Emily Louie 6-2, 6-4 in the sixth singles match to tie everything up.
The Bears got the win in the third singles match as Stewart outlasted
Bri Serruto 6-4, 1-6, 12-10 in a hard fought third singles match.
The Spartans return to action on Sunday morning when they host Marymount University in a non-conference match. The action is set to kick off at 11:00 am in York.
