WAYNESBORO, PA – The York College men's golf team finished fourth at the 21-team Mason-Dixon Collegiate Classic at the Waynesboro Country Club in Waynesboro, PA.
The Spartans finished two shots better than Saturday at 297 for a two-day total of 596. However, the Spartans dropped one spot as they were three strokes back of Franklin & Marshall and McDaniel as the Diplomats and Green Terror finished tied for second at 593. Gettysburg won the tournament with a score of 589. Dickinson rounded out the top five teams as they were one stroke back of York at 597.
Senior
Riley Rohlfs paced the squad on Sunday as the fired an even-par 72. He began the day day on hole number two and he played his first eight holes in two over. He began the back with a bogey but then had a par, a birdie, a bogey and another birdie as he was two over. After three straight pars, Rohlfs finished his round with a flourish as he birdied 18 and 1 to finish with his 72. He fired a 37 on the front and a 35 on the back as he finished tied for third. Rohlfs was one shot out of second and four strokes back of winner Ryan McGarry from McDaniel.
Freshman
Jacob Fripp had a great second day in his first collegiate tournament. Fripp, who shot 85 on Saturday, carded a two-over-par 74 on Sunday. Fripp started on hole one as he went two-over on the front with bogeys on three and eight as he made the turn in 38. Fripp had two birdies and two bogeys on the back nine for an even-par 36. He finished tied for 69
th overall in the tournament but improved his standing by 17 places with his Sunday round.
Sophmore
Matthew Salter was York's third finisher on Sunday as he shot a three-over-par 75. He started on two and had back-to-back bogeys to open his round. He bounced back with a birdie before recording five pars over the remainder of the opening nine. Salter had a bogey and double bogey to open the back nine. Again, he bounced back with a pair of birdies to get back to two over. He bogeyed 16 to finish with a two-over 38. He parred his final hole to shoot a 37 on the front. Salter tied for 19
th in the 104-player field.
Sophomore
Gavin Ganter was York's fourth scorer on Sunday as he finished with a four-over-par 76. Ganter began his day on the third hole as he notched pars on his first three holes. He had a pair of birdies and a double bogey in the final four holes of the front. He opened the back with a pair of bogeys before four straight pars left him at two over. A double on 16 and a bogey on 18 gave him a 41 on the back nine. He birdied one and parred two as he ended up one under on the front with a 35. Ganter finished tied for 54
th in the field.
Senior
Nick Fioravante was York's fifth tournament participant on Sunday as he shot a seven-over-par 79. Fioravante shot 41 on the front and 38 on the back. He finished eight over for the tournament which tied him for 34
th overall.
The Spartans return to action on Tuesday, October 11 when they travel to the Club at PB Dye in Ijamsville, Maryland to participate in the Hood Fall Invitational. The action kicks off noon.
