How It Happened
• The Spartan came roaring out of the gate as they registered three penalty corners and a shot on goal in the opening 2:41 of the game. The Spartans broke through just over a minute later for the game's opening goal. The Spartans played a long ball in from outside the circle. The ball was played by the goalie and came to
Riley Buschert. Buschert played the ball to
Katie Martino who tapped in the pass for the goal.
• After the Spartan score, Albright had a flurry of four penalty corners and three shots in a span of a minute and eight seconds. York answered with two penalty corners and two shots before they were awarded a penalty stroke. Albright goalie Veronica Heckman stopped the stroke as the Spartans led 1-0 after one quarter of play.
• The Spartans wasted little time in adding to their lead in the second quarter. The Spartans had a penalty corner 2:52 into the period. The ball got played around to
Hannah Huffman who sent a pass towards the far left post. Martino flicked the ball into the cage for the 2-0 lead. York had another three corners and two more shots over the next seven minutes as they had firm control of the game. York out shot Albright 6-1 in the quarter but Heckman had three saves to keep the Lions in the game.
• Albright came out in the third quarter and took the play to the Green and White. The Lions scored a mere 59 seconds into the second half as Chelsea Johnson played a ball in off a penalty corner. She found Laurel Gingrich who snuck into the circle off the insert and Gingrich finished off the chance for her second goal of the year. Albright continued to pressure the Spartans over the next eight minutes before York asserted control in the final five minutes of the quarter. The third period was the most even of the game as York held a 4-3 margin in shots while Albright had a 5-3 edge in penalty corners.
• The fourth quarter as all Spartans as they had all three shots and all six penalty corners in the period. York finished the game with an 18-7 edge in total shots, an 11-2 advantage in shots on goal and a 19-9 margin in penalty corners.
