Spartans Remain Perfect on the Road with Win at LVC

York improves to 7-0 on the road with 19-point Commonwealth victory in Annville

YORK, Pa. - The York women's basketball shook off a slow start to pull away in the second half to a 64-45 Commonwealth victory at Lebanon Valley.

The Spartans picked up their seven-straight road win of the season, their longest such streak since 2014, and completed the regular season sweep of the Dutchmen. Four Spartans landed in double figures, led by Savannah Wilson's 17. Kayla Ferris once again posted a double-double with 12 points and a season-high 14 rebounds. Bradi Zumbrum and Alana Bortner also scored double-digits with 10 each.

Team Records
York 15-3 (9-1 MACC)
Lebanon Valley 8-11 (3-7 MACC)

How It Happened
  • Neither team started out well offensively as each team made just four field goals in the first quarter in a combined 8-for-27 effort from the floor with the score tied at 11.
  • After a back-and-forth start to the second quarter, the Spartans edged out an 18-15 lead with 6:45 left. Then the scoring went silent for both sides for two-and-a-half minutes before LVC's Kate Fitzpatrick broke the scoreless drought with her three-pointer to tie the game 18-18, but Savannah Wilson responded with a layup on the ensuing possession to put York back in front with four minutes to play.
  • Kayla Ferris extended the Spartan lead to 22-18 on a fast-break layup with 3:43 left to play in the first half. The Spartans and Dutchmen would pick up the pace as they went on to combine for eight points over the next 33 seconds with Alana Bortner knocking down a key three-pointer to keep York in the lead. Neither team would score again until Brooklyn Naylor laid the ball in the basket with 32 seconds left and then Ferris intercepted a pass on the ensuing LVC possession and scored on the fastbreak to send the Spartans into halftime with a 29-21 advantage.
  • York opened the third quarter on a 6-3 run capped by a pair of made Bortner free throws to give the Spartans their largest lead of the game to that point at nine. The Dutchmen came back with a 7-2 run to cut the deficit to six, but Bortner squashed the LVC momentum with a three-pointer to push the Spartan lead back to nine with 4:05 left in the third.
  • The Dutchmen fought back as they scored on back-to-back possessions to cut the York lead to five (40-35) with under three minutes to play in the third quarter. York responded to the sudden LVC surge by ending the quarter on a 9-2 run, highlighted by a Wilson trey in the middle of the run that gave the Spartans their fist double-digit lead of the night. Wilson would also score the final bucket of the quarter as the Spartans took a 49-37 lead into the fourth.
  • Meghan Leininger accounted for all five points on an opening 5-0 Spartan to begin the fourth quarter as the lead swelled to 17. LVC responded with three-pointers on back-to-back possessions to cut the deficit to 11 with 5:05 left to play, but that would be as close as the Dutchmen would come to the lead the rest of the way. York held LVC to just two points in the final five minutes on a 1-for-6 shooting effort while the Spartans ripped off 10 points, five of which were scored by Wilson. The Spartans ended up out-scoring the Dutchmen 15-8 in the fourth quarter as York shot 5-for-11 in the frame and held LVC to 3-for-14.
