YORK, PA – The York College women's tennis squad played their first dual match of the fall as Rutgers-Camden edged the Spartans 5-4 in a non-conference contest in York on Sunday.
The Scarlet Raptors have played well this fall as they improve to 5-0. The Spartans fall to 0-1 with the one-point setback.
The Scarlet Raptors captured two of the three doubles points. York's win came from the duo of
Brianna Rohrer and
Morrissey Walsh as they recorded an 8-6 second doubles win over Samantha Hoban and Laurel DiStefano.
The singles matches kicked off with Spartan ace
Elsa Oestermarker picking up a 6-2, 6-1 first singles win for the Spartans.
Chloe Doyle put the Spartans in front as she earned a 6-2, 6-1 fourth singles victory as York held a 3-2 match lead. Camden's Tiffany Trivers drew the Raptors even with a 6-2, 6-4 third singles win. Morgan Dempsey edged York's
Kelsey Sheets 6-3, 6-4 in the sixth singles match as Camden took a 4-3 lead. Walsh tied the match for the Spartans as she posted a 6-4, 6-2 win over LeAnne Hall in the fifth singles match.
Camden's Samantha Hoban secured the victory for her side as she outlasted
Lauren Ostermann 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 in the second singles match.
York returns to action on Saturday, September 25 when they travel to Dickinson College for a non-conference match up. The match is slated for a 12:00 pm start.
